It's certainly not news that the various scents on BART can make your stomach turn. But this morning, the stench on a San Francisco-bound train burned enough nose hairs that the train was brought to a screeching halt.

KRON4 reports that at about 10:28 a.m., a "foul odor" was detected on a BART train headed for San Francisco. Authorities considered the smell to be somewhat caustic and stopped the train at West Oakland. Passengers were evacuated and took the opportunity to grab some fresh air.

Authorities inspected the train and while they probably found plenty of offensive smells, they found nothing criminal or unsafe, according to press reports.

The unusual scent caused 20-minute delays. Trains were back on track by 11 a.m.
