Last Night San Francisco Cops Kill Suspected Car Burglar (Update)

Update: Medical Authorites have identified the deceased suspect as 26-year-old O'Shaine Evans, an Oakland resident.
San Francisco police shot and killed a suspected car thief dead after he reportedly pointed a gun at officers outside AT&T Park last night.
Officer Gordon Shyy says the incident happened at about 9 p.m. when officers who were assigned to conduct "crime suppression" near the ballpark spotted a suspicious vehicle casing other cars.
Officers watched the vehicle and observed it park in the area of Jack London Alley and Bryant Street. The occupants got out of the car and broke into a Mercedes SUV parked on Jack London Alley. When they got back into their car, officers approached them and spotted a handgun in the driver's possession.
"The officer ordered the driver to drop the handgun but he did not comply and forced the officer to discharge his firearm in defense of himself and others," Shyy says. "The driver and rear passenger was struck by gunfire."
The passenger in the front got out of the car and ran. However, he didn't get very far. He was apprehended by additional responding officers on Bryant Street, approximately 60 feet east of Jack London.
Both shot suspects were taken to San Francisco General Hospital where the driver was pronounced dead. The second suspect is expected to survive, police say.
Police later recovered the suspect's firearm at the scene, and the stolen property from the Mercedes SUV was recovered inside the suspect vehicle.
The officer who discharged his firearm will be on 10-day administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
No names have been released at this time.
It's the second officer-involved shooting in less than three weeks. On Sept. 25, police shot and killed 34-year-old Giovany Contreras Sandoval after he allegedly carjacked a woman in Richmond and led police on a high-speed chase across the Golden Gate Bridge into downtown San Francisco. Sandoval's car crashed on Battery Street and he fired on good Samaritans attempting to assist him. At that time, police arrived at the scene and fired 32 rounds at Sandoval, killing him instantly.
