If you hadn't already taken note, today is National Coffee Day, which means free samples of your favorite java all day long (sorry tea drinkers, you already celebrated your day).

It also means coffee connoisseurs are scrutinizing our caffeine fixes to determine just how addicted we are. In honor of one of the most observed holidays in America (that's our anecdotal observation), Redfin crunched some numbers and concluded that San Francisco is the fourth best city for coffee snobs.

Now for the burning questions: which city out-brewed us?

A 19-year-old woman was chased down by armed men who stabbed her during a robbery in the Mission District this weekend.

Police say the woman was on 20th Street and Van Ness Avenue at about 5 a.m. on Sunday when a group of men in a Mercedes SUV pulled up. One of the men got out of the front passenger side and asked the girl for money. The teen started to run, attempting to dodge trouble, says Officer Albie Esparza.

Barry Bonds Is the New Google Glass Poster Boy

Posted By on Mon, Sep 29, 2014 at 12:50 PM

Things are evidently looking up for disgraced former Giants slugger Barry Bonds.

Two weeks ago, an 11-judge appeals court panel raised questions about his 2011 obstruction of justice charge, suggesting it may soon be overturned in the Ninth Circuit.

And now, he's emerged as an unlikely poster child for Google Glass, a piece of once-hyped face-computing that, like Bonds, fell into ill repute

  • You already paid your taxes, remember?
Last month, we warned readers about these phony IRS workers who had been making cold calls to the hard-working people of San Francisco and duping them into sending them cash.

Apparently, readers didn't read closely enough.

Police are continuing to get reports citywide from people getting calls from fake IRS agents who are bullying residents into paying them money. In the scam, the caller will claim the resident owes the IRS some big bucks and if they don't pay right now, they'll send police out to the house to arrest them.

Videos Shows Gentrification of San Francisco in 1963

Road beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, circa 1963 - YOUTUBE/BRITISH PATHE
San Francisco inthe '60s hardly resembled the city we see now. Affluent bros weren't gliding through the Tenderloin on electric-powered skateboards; Market Street wasn't glittering with high-rise luxury condos or Michelin-starred eateries.

Old-fashioned lampposts and marquees for the Fred Astaire Dance Studio still lit up the city's downtown corridor, and residents could still buy vegetables at the wholesale produce market area.

And yet, as one 1963 newsreel on the "Changing Face of San Francisco" warned, the city was about to undergo a drastic remodel.

At about 6:57 a.m. on Monday, two adults were found on the 200 block of 14th Avenue stripped down naked in a city dumpster having "intimate relations" amid a heap of trash.

Afterward, the sexually charged pair had a smoke in the dumpster, near flammable items, a witness told police.

Petition Demands 49ers to Bench Ray McDonald Over Domestic Violence Arrest

Posted By on Fri, Sep 26, 2014 at 12:40 PM

A progressive social change organization is fed up with the NFL's tolerance for abusive behavior after the San Francisco 49ers refused to bench player Ray McDonald when he was arrested on suspicion of beating his pregnant fiancee.

Credo Action, an activist group that funds progressive policy, posted an online petition earlier this month, asking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and team owners to bench the 49ers defensive lineman until the domestic abuse case is resolved. The petition, posted in conjunction with Daily Kos Campaigns, has 6296 signatures as of now.

“(The NFL's respect for due process) is a convenient excuse that allows teams to get maximum advantage from players while paying lip service to a stance of zero tolerance for violence against women,” a post from Credo Action reads, encouraging viewers to sign the petition.
