The driver of a blue Jeep Liberty caught on video striking a pedestrian prior to fleeing near Bernal Hill late last month has been arrested, police said Friday.
Aliitasi Alapati, 41, of San Francisco, was arrested on April 21 after police from the Ingleside Station pursued three search warrants, finding the vehicle used in the hit-and-run at one address, and the suspect at another, police said.
Police booked Alapati into San Francisco County Jail on charges of felony hit-and-run, driving on the sidewalk, reckless driving, and concealing/destroying evidence.
The arrest comes almost a month after police responded to a call that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Bernal Heights Blvd. at 8:20 a.m. on March 28. At the scene San Francisco Fire Department medics treated the adult female victim for life-threatening injuries. SFPD did respond to requests for additional information about the status of the victim.
Witnesses helped with the investigation, but it was a video recording of the incident (above) that led police to identify the vehicle used in the crime.
