One driver has died and another is critically injured in a crash that started a brief wildland fire at John McLaren Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 1 p.m., cars driving in opposite directions on Mansell Street at the edge of McLaren Park in Visitacion Valley crashed into one another, says police spokesperson Officer Giselle Linnane. One driver died at the scene and one was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A fire from the crash spread to McLaren Park but is under control, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

UPDATE, January 25, 11:45 a.m.: The medical examiner’s office has identified the man killed in the crash as 34-year-old Eber Oyuela, Bay City News reports. The San Francisco resident was pronounced dead at the scene.
