It's a Funny World You People Live In

A lot of us know Nick Hornby for one thing: lists. His novel and subsequent John Cusack/Jack Black vehicle of a film, High Fidelity, had much to recommend it, if not the girlfriend character. But the very best part was the constant list-making of the record store clerk main characters; five favorite albums, five favorite songs, and so on. It was shameless. Anyway, it's a bit of a surprise to find Hornby now having written a film about the coming of age of a young, fussy, cello-playing British lady. But we love Hornby so much, we're ready to follow him into any kind of chick flick, especially literally: Hornby shows up in person for this preview screening. The steep door price keeps away the poorer crazies, but also nets audience members a copy of his new collected Believer lit crit columns.
