OK, normally, SF Weekly has a severe allergic reaction to anything that even suggests shilling for corporations — but nobody likes a joyless scold, so while we're not going to tell you to use any ride-sharing services this weekend, we will say that you should keep an eye out for a replica of the Ghostbusters' Ecto-1, which will be shuttling Lyft riders around town in anticipation of the reboot, which hits theaters July 14.
From 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., today and tomorrow, use of Lyft's Ghost Mode might result in a
1980s Cadillac hearse Ecto-1 driven by someone in a Ghostbusters jumpsuit coming to pick you up. (The promotion is happening in five cities: S.F., N.Y.C., L.A., D.C., and Boston.) There will also be four white Toyota Highlanders outfitted with the Ghostbusters logo, and everyone will have Ecto Cooler and Key Lime Slime Twinkies for you, plus you'll have a chance to win tickets to Ghostbusters' L.A. premiere next week.
And if you do get to ride in the Caddy, you will definitely arrive at your destination in style, and not simply because the suspension on these puppies is as soft and smooth as it gets.
Are we sell-outs? (Maybe, but what can we say? Everyone has a price. Ours was two boxes of Hi-C.)
We'll even go further and say that if you have a non-terminal repeating phantasm or a Class Five full roaming vapor haunting your library, or if Gozer the Gozerian takes over your fridge and causes you to levitate, you should definitely call the Ghostbusters.
