Every week, I photograph dozens of San Franciscans who take their own approach to style. I'm not prowling for a particular aesthetic, just on the lookout for individuals who are expressing themselves through fashion. However, I routinely get a similar response from readers; many seem fixated on how these stylish characters represent the city. I've heard definitive opinions from some of you about what is, or isn't, quintessential San Francisco fashion, and it's made me curious.
I explored a few coastal northwest cities for comparison — Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver, BC — to find out what we had in common, and how we differed. I'll kick things off in Portland after the jump, and then make my way up the coast.
