UPDATE, June 12: 4505’s Oakland location has pushed back its anticipated opening date from June 14 to a date that is still TBD.
From the smoked-meat plate to the posole to the infamous chicharrones, 4505 Meats has been San Francisco’s leading carnivorous operation since it took up residence on Divisadero Street (as 4505 Burgers & BBQ) in 2014. Now, at long last, the East Bay expansion is nearly here.
Chef-butcher-candlestick-maker Ryan Farr and owner-operator Andrew Ghetia will take their curiously rare style of whole-hog butchery to Oakland’s Laurel District — with a permanently installed cooker called the “pig rig” on-site. Smoking humanely raised oinkers from Chico’s Llano Seco Ranch over California oak, and with a bunch of beers from local craft breweries (and free ice cream for kids, a nod to Farr’s favorite barbecue joint in his hometown of Kansas City) they’ve brought new life to what was originally Glenn’s Hot Dogs, including the restoration of its vintage sign.
A dog-friendly patio is a great place to chill with some Temescal Hazy — or root beer on tap! — while diving into a half-pound of bacon, beef, and cheddar sausage links served with pickles, Vidalia onions, and white bread. This is sure to be a KC masterpiece.
