Brunch of Champions: Where to Recover on New Year’s Day

And by "recover," we obviously mean eat and drink at the same ravenous clip you were maintaining on New Year's Eve.

The entire world is going to get very drunk this Saturday night to bid adieu to a shitty year. But when you wake up late on the morning of Jan. 1, 2017 with noisemakers still caught in your wig, where are you going to keep the party going? Here are some suggestions for New Year’s Day brunch.

ABV Throws Its Last Brunch Ever

As a send-off to serving brunch, ABV (3714 16th St.) will throw a “Wild Industry Party” from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. There will be Micheladas, House Bloody Marys, Palomas Rosasdas, and plenty of chicken karaage with cheddar biscuits and hot sauce, avocado toast, and egg-topped totopos. What is ABV up to, exactly? We don’t know yet, but the team is cooking up a new concept to replace the gaping void that brunch service will leave behind.

Wes Burger ‘N’ More’s Hangover Helper Menu

As an inveterate sufferer of New Year’s Day headaches and photosensitivity, Wes Rowe of Wes Burger ‘N’ More (2240 Mission St.) decided to help his fellow humans out. At $80 for two people, his “Hangover Helper Family Style Menu” includes four drinks and five eats, all brought to the table. Start with a personal French press of coffee, then move on to Tex Mex Micheladas, Dolores Greyhounds (with Lo-Fi gentian amaro and grapefruit juice), and big bottles of Topo Chico mineral water, while feasting on chips and queso, two breakfast tacos (either brisket, bacon-and-egg, or vegetarian), smoked goat birria, and a fried chicken and Texas waffles.

Presidio Social Club’s Mac & Cheese

Brioche beignets and brown sugar cinnamon rolls are what’s coming at you at Presidio Social Club (563 Ruger St., The Presidio), along with burgers, challah French toast, and that staple of hangover diminution, macaroni and cheese. In the boozy column, look for Champagne and Painkillers. (That’s rum with coconut, pineapple juice, and OJ. If you want opioids, you’re on your own.)

Elite Cafe’s Unmissable Brunch & Cocktail Pairings

Newly renovated, The Elite Cafe (2049 Fillmore St.) will grant you a mulligan on any New Year’s resolutions you may have made that involve wellness or abstinence of any kind. Bar consultant Kevin Diedrich has put together a list of pairings, including deviled eggs and a martini, French toast and a Day Walker, NOLA Rancheros and a Ramos Fizz, and a pork porterhouse with Cabernet. Technically, at that point, Mardi Gras (Feb. 28) will fall next month, so laissez le bon temps rouler.
