California Senate Passes the Shark's Fin Ban

According to staffers in the office of Assemblymember Paul Fong, the California Senate just passed AB 376, the statewide ban on selling or importing shark's fin, with a vote of 25 to 9. California may soon become the nation's fourth state to enact the ban — and certainly the one with the largest Chinese American community —  which is aimed at combating the practice of shark finning.

The Assembly passed AB 376 in May. If the governor signs AB 376 into law, it will take effect January 1, 2013.
