[jump] The Gangway Might Become Daddy Bones
Well, 2016 is officially punching me in my solar plexus. I spent three of the last four nights mourning David Bowie in song (at the Eagle, Beauty Bar, and the Alamo Drafthouse) and now the oldest, weirdest, most irreplaceable gay bar in San Francisco is looking like a goner. Tablehopper caught that The Gangway's owner sold it after apparently not paying his employees fairly and now the liquor license is being transferred to an entity called either Breaking Chad, Inc. or Daddy Bones. (The question “Who does Daddy bone?” would probably best be answered in the Gangway.)

Rice Paper Scissors' Lunar New Year Brunch at PizzaHacker
Rice Paper Scissors will celebrate Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, on Saturday, Feb. 6 with a brunch full of auspicious items in the shape of money and the moon, plus seasonal fare like Banh Tết, the sticky rice cakes steamed in banana leaves. Expect a phở French dip, tapioca dumplings, taro swirl mooncakes, and more.

Marlowe/Marlowe Burger/Marlowe @ 330 Burger to Become Popson's
Although scheduled to meet the wrecking ball next year, the former Marlowe at 330 Townsend Street is going to become a fast-casual burger joint called Popson's sometime soon. Hoodline reports that it's a project from the team behind Causwells, who will be opening another Popson's at 998 Market as well. Still, this entire thing might be hypothetical, as it's very early.

Huxley Snags a Chef from Schroeder's…

Manfred Wrembel has come to Huxley from the comparatively massive Schroeder's, one week after chef Sara Hauman left. Eater says to expect a new menu when the 28-seat Tenderloin restaurant reopens next Tuesday, Jan. 19. 

…And Schroeder's Wastes No Time Sourcing a New One
Chris Borges is the new Executive Chef at Schroeder's, and he's already created three new wursts, remade the Kraut Burger with liptauer cheese, and put together a new cheese platter, among other changes. As the city's oldest German restaurant, we can expect big Beer Week, specifically BrewHaHa, an evening of German bites, polka music from Polkalicious (who else?), and beer from six S.F. breweries, including Fort Point, Lagunitas, Headlands and Woodfour.

Farallon Has a New Chef, Too
Jason Ryczek is the new executive chef at Farallon, having arrived after a three-year stint at its sister restaurant, Waterbar, His first big project will be a Valentine's Day tasting menu, the details of which are TBD.

18 Reasons Reopens
The cute, welcoming event space that's part of Bi-Rite's 18th Street complex will reopen this evening after a renovation. S.F.'s best place to learn basic knife skills, how to cook rabbit, and what a Chinese-Peruvian New Year's meal would look like, 18 Reasons' consistently excellent programming returns with a photo show by photographer Miles Mattison, 5-7 p.m.

The Divis Sushi Rampage Continues

Ijji, a 16-to-18-seat, nigiri-only sushi restaurant, will soft-open Jan. 27 at 252 Divisadero. It's seemingly uncomplicated, and according to Hoodline, definitely not the most precious Japanese restaurant in town: OF those places, chef and part-owner Billy Kong says, “Every time you go, it takes an hour and a half to three hours.” 

Burrito Blackout
According to the Business Times, Chipotle will close all of its 2,000 locations for several hours on Feb. 8 for an all-staff meeting of sorts, to discuss food safety issues. I hope the educational filmstrip that all employees are subjected to is loud enough to drown out the incessant pounding of frustrated would-be customers on the doors.
