Oktoberfest, Oaktoberfest, beer Olympics, beer pong: yeah, beer fans have lots to love this month. There are so many beer-y events, but it can be intriguing fun when something offers potentially great craft Belgian brews and an interesting theme.
Enter Chouffe Festival, happening for one-night in the Presidio on October 23. Brasserie d’Achouffe is a brewery that has been rockin' a blonde La Chouffe beer with a bent over gnome carrying his hops since the early '80s. La Chouffe samples will be served, along with Mc Chouffe (a dark ale of the Belgian-Scottish variety) and Houblon Chouffe (an IPA triple).
[jump] Gnomes aren't a new thing, but they remain totally cute for a beer maker since they are so similar to Hobbits, elves, and even Smurfs. It's a refreshing change from the sort of stoic-looking Trappist monks that tend to be the norm for similar beer from Belgium. Chouffe Festival happens at other hoppening cities in the U.S. A rep from Ommegang / Chouffe named Brian Henrici says the reason for bringing the gnomey fun to the Bay is clear:
“San Francisco is a great beer town with a lot of history, and it just seemed like a natural stop to share the beers of Chouffe and this gnome sized world we created,” he says.
Tickets are $10 plus an $1.54 fee on Eventbrite – a bargain for an event billed as “all-inclusive.”
When: Oct 23, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Where: Log Cabin in the Presidio (1299 Storey Ave.)
Rundown: Belgian beer, food and big versions of checkers, Jenga, and Connect Four help imbibers feel like a gnome. Selfie it up at the eight-foot tall gnome throne photo booth while you dance to DJ tunes. Take home a gnome-i-fying caricature from an on-site artist – apropos for a month that includes Halloween, no? Paper nerds can write and sent pressed post cards which are done on-site, in keeping with the curated feel of the event.
Hot tip: Uber is running a discounted uberPOOL rate for this one, for the ride sharers in our midst. Current Uber users can use the CHOUFFEPOOL promo code.
