Just as the single-camera setup has revitalized the sitcom, so the one-bun lunch may reinvigorate your day, oh FiDi worker. The one bun to rule them all can be found at Yong Kee, one of a dozen old-school Cantonese bakeries and dumpling shops clustered around Stockton and Jackson. Yong Kee is known for its rice noodles and its dai bao, or “big bun.” Bite into the puffy, half-pound bao in one spot, and you'll encounter chopped chicken seasoned with sesame oil and green onions. Bite into another spot, and you may find a slice of lap cheong, rice-wine scented Chinese sausage. Or a fat black mushroom. Or half of an egg. It's all the goodness of a sticky-rice packet, except you can carry it in your fist. The dai bao costs $1.35, so if you pick up a piece of fruit at one of the markets on your walk back to work, you've got a $2 lunch. That's half the price, and worlds better, than the Lean Cuisine you were saving in the freezer in case of emergency.
