The Harlem Globetrotters Hit Up Tony’s Pizza Napoletana

They could take the heat, so they stayed in the kitchen — and learned some pizza-tossing skills.

The Harlem Globetrotters, fresh off their 10,000th consecutive win against the Washington Generals, stopped in to celebrate with another multiple-time world champ, S.F.’s own master pizzaiolo, Tony Gemignani.

Over at Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in North Beach, the master taught aptly named Buckets Blakes and Scooter Christensen a few tricks on throwing dough, while the Globetrotters reciprocated by dazzling the crowd with their ball-handling magic. No word yet on whether Gemignani decided to rename his Eddie Muenster Pie the Sweet Georgia Brown.

The Globetrotters play seven games in the Bay Area, at Oracle Arena and the SAP Center in San Jose, Jan. 14-22.
