Local Brewing Co. Now Open in SOMA for your Beery Pleasure

Local Brewing Co.
, a new craft beer destination for the masses, has opened its giant double doors. After five years of effort, cofounders Regan Long and Sarah Fenson have brought their vision to fruition in a gorgeous open space at 69 Bluxome St, just blocks from AT&T Park and the SF CalTrain station.

Local is super-clean, warehouse-like, and industrial in all the ways a production brewery and taproom should be. Their space includes big chunky, custom-made metal and wood tables and stools, insanely high ceilings, and a whole lot of shiny stainless steel in the back where the seven-barrel brewery is housed. The brewery is divided from the taproom by just a chain, bringing the drinking public a little closer to the beer making process. Minimizing the division between the area where brewing and consumption happens was part of Regan and Sarah’s vision of bringing people closer to craft beer, a symbol of their desire to limit their distance from their beer-drinking customers and of their just-say-no-attitude to beer snobbery.

Upon opening, Local is offering seven beers on tap, but promises to have beer flowing through the other nine taps once they’ve had a chance to brew up more. The beer selection is unpretentious, just like the space, the owners, and the beertenders. Currently, it includes a dank and citrusy Glen Park IPA (a favorite), the more subtle and refined Duboce Park IPA, the well-balanced Fort Pale Ale, the smooth and silky Sutro Tower Nitro Stout, their clean pale SF Lager, the nutty and toasty Bluxome Black Lager, and the full bodied 7.3% ABV Angel Island India Red Ale. Local’s beer is delicious and impressively dialed-in for a brand spankin’ new brewery. They also offer a small menu of bar snacks to keep you going while you’re gulping down the brews.

This is definitely a great place to grab a happy hour beer after work, to hit up before or after a Caltrain ride, or to get your swig on for Giants game days. Get in there now and try the goods before Local is slam-packed every day!
