SOMA's Gallery Lounge might've been the kind of bar most charitably described as chill. At the opening bash next Tuesday for Bar Basic, the Gallery's successor, owner Mike Limanon is hoping for a whiff of taco-truck cool. Limanon's arranged for free tacos (with drink purchases) all night after 7 p.m., along with raffle prizes, and half-price drinks from 6-7 p.m. On normal nights, Limanon (a first-time tavern owner who left a gig in real-estate development) says his totally refurbished establishment should feel like an update of the neighborhood bar, with perks like taco-trucks on weekend nights, maybe other food trucks too, eventually. Semi-private events and theme nights, of course, including Thursdays' Back to Basics, devoted to what Limanon calls “classically made cocktails ― cocktails that your grandfather used to drink, strong and to the point.” Maybe more to the point: An innovative kind of bottle service that lets you plonk down for something top-shelf, then leave it in what Limanon calls the vault, safe for future visits, when you might fancy making withdrawals. Find out how to start amassing liquid assets after the jump.
