SF Weekly's Seven-Day Dish

Around Town:

Artisan doughnuts are the order of the day at Mission newcomer Dynamo Donut & Coffee (2760 24th St. at York), where husband-and-wife team Sara Spearin and Jonny Raglin have cornered the market on handmade, yeast-risen dunkers. Dynamo's humble kiosk cranks out a cast of nine rotating doughnut flavors using as many local and organic ingredients as the two can get their hands on, served alongside java from Portland, Oregon's acclaimed Stumptown Coffee Roasters. “Damn good coffee,” Raglin says. “It's sort of overshadowing the doughnuts. But the buzz doughnut is definitely the bacon one [maple-glazed bacon and apple], for obvious reasons. It's kind of like having your pancake and bacon in hand. The crowd favorite we've noticed is the chocolate spice doughnut. It's a yeast-risen chocolate doughnut tossed with sugar, cinnamon, and chipotle – kind of a Mexican chocolate doughnut. My personal favorite has to be the salted caramel.” The 'nuts run $2-$3 apiece. Watch for American-style breads and lunchtime sandwich business in the coming months. Open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
