I've said it before, and I'll say it again: You cannot go wrong with a date that involves massive amounts of chocolate. To that end, the 13th Annual Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival is coming up this weekend, September 6 and 7, from noon to 5 p.m. Highlights include the Earthquake Ice Cream Sundae Eating Contest; a chocolate-making demonstration (and, perhaps more importantly, tasting) by master chocolatier Ann Czaja; cupcake making and decorating secrets from Kara Lind, owner and creator of Kara's Cupcakes; and the – to my mind – main event: a wine and chocolate pairing seminar.
