SoMa Streat Food Park, San Francisco's first Food-Truck Pod, Grand Opening
Where: This triangular park at 428 11th Street boasts covered seating for over 100 people, heat lamps, free WiFi, a projection screen for movies, bike parking and a (soon to be opened) beer garden.
When: Today! The park will be open for business 7 days a week.
Monday – Friday, lunch from 11 AM-3 PM and dinner from 5 PM – 10 PM
Saturday and Sunday 11 AM – 10 PM
Cost: Varies by truck. The ten truck spots will rotate daily to provide a variety of options. Inspired by permanent food truck pods in Portland, this uniquely San Franciscan park takes advantage of the truck's mobility to make sure there is something new every time you visit.
The Rundown: After a soft opening less than a week ago, the Streat Food Park is already buzzing with neighbors, lunch-breakers and people tracking down their favorite food truck. After a year and a half of preparing the park, Carlos Muela is excited to see a community already building as someone trades a bite of an organic and alternative twist on a bahn mi from Little Green Cyclo for a nibble of one of La Pastrami's dagwoods. It's not all sandwiches, as the park had something for everyone when I visited the soft opening yesterday. While lines were longest at NorCal's only Thai Food Truck, Phat Thai, the Golden Waffle catered to a lunch time sweet tooth. The Streat Food Park will not only be a way to casually say hello to a coworker outside the office or hit a few food truck destinations in one blow, but also a new kind of space for San Francisco to get creative with and take advantage of.
