SoMa's New Coffee Bar Location Looking for Popup Vendors

Although the opening of Coffee Bar's third location at Howard and 12th Street is still several months away, the cafe has decided that its kitchen shouldn't just sit there, awaiting a fleet of laptop owners. Events manager Nathan Downs is putting out the word that the cafe is interested in hosting a rota of popups who want to serve food out a service window in the side of the building. “I will be encouraging chefs to do whatever they like as long as it is in the spirit of street food (affordable),” Downs wrote to SFoodie. He's calling the window — wait, don't guess — The Window.

The kitchen is fully permitted, Downs adds, and is currently serving as the central commissary for the Coffee Bar's other two locations. They're in the process of upgrading an existing service window at 1599 Howard — it's a former What's Up Dog — and plan to set up high cocktail tables with no chairs so people can eat and run. Chefs, who can rent out the space by the night, will be responsible for their own promotion, though Coffee Bar will be setting up a Twitter feed and web page for the Window, and Downs hopes to be up and running in a couple of weeks. If you're interested, email him at And if you're just interested in what you can eat there, SFoodie will let you know when the Window's inaugural schedule goes up.
