It’s high season for all manner of produce, but if you needed another reason to stop by the Ferry Building Farmers Market, Tacolicious’ Summer Chef Guest Series has returned for the ninth year. Every Thursday through Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a different chef will create a signature taco befitting their own personal style, with proceeds going to CUESA’s Schoolyard to Market Program.
Past years’ tacos have included jackfruit masala and crunchy cheeseburgers, but this year the range has broadened even further. On Thursday, June 28, Adam Tortosa of Hayes Valley omakase temple Robin will roll out a miso-roasted sweet potato taco with a Japanese chimichurri, while A Mano’s Freedom Rains has a World Cup-sounding “Italy meets Mexico” taco lined up for July 7. Chris Cosentino of Cockscomb, S.F.’s reigning king of offal — which always make the best taco meats — takes over on July 12, while Blair Warsham of The Bird goes the fried chicken route on Aug. 2.
Finishing things off in a dessert fashion, appropriately enough, is Tyler Malek of Salt & Straw ice cream. Not to presume, but Salt & Straw’s Tacocat is a delicious combo of Mexican vanilla ice cream, with a crumbled Mexican chocolate tortilla shell, queso fresco, and a bit of chili powder and cinnamon
