[jump] Hop on the Drink SF Beer Shuttle
Beginning Wednesday, March 16 at Black Sands Brewery in the Lower Haight, the San Francisco Brewers Guild (SFBG) will launch a monthly shuttle service as part of its Meet the Brewers Night. Divided into four lines — Haight/Sunset, Dogpatch/Mission Bay, and the like — the bus will travel among four or five breweries per night, and it's free. Leaving every 15 to 20 minutes, the March 16 transit sensation will circulate among Black Sands, Magnolia Brewpub, Sunset Reservoir Brewing, Social Kitchen & Brewery, and Barrel Head Brewhouse, and every month thereafter will feature a different route and origin. We know how challenging it is to run mass transit in this city, so bravo SFBG on pulling off that logistical hurdle!
Flavor! Napa Valley Returns March 16-20
For the fifth year running, Flavor! Napa Valley will bring together Culinary Institute of America graduates, Napa winemakers and more for a five-day run of some 40 events that benefits the CIA at Greystone in St. Helena. A dozen restaurants and three dozen wineries lead things off at the Downtown StrEAT Market (March 16), followed by a master sommelier-hosted celebratory dinner in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris (March 17), and a Grand Tasting on Saturday night (March 19) — plus wine tours, chef demos, and explorations of any number of varietals.
March 12 Is Saison Day
Most food holidays are stupid. Some are awesome. Saison Day is such a one. Oakland's Portal (1611 Second Ave.) and the Mission location of Rosamunde Sausage Grill (2832 Mission St.) will partner with Allagash Brewing, Henhouse, Woodfour, and Stillwater for food pairings and flights of this superior French spring brew. It all goes down Saturday, March 12 at 3 p.m.
Alice Waters Appears at Shinola Palo Alto
This Thursday, March 3, frm 4:30-6:30 p.m., Alice Waters will give a reading at One Grand, a “curated bookstore” put on by Shinola Palo Alto (261 Hamilton Ave.). I suspect at least one or two of her 10 desert island books will include some recipes.
Mickey D's Includes Kale in Its All-Day Breakfast
Dunkin Donuts might be coming to Walnut Creek, but McDonald's has already introduced kale breakfast bowls to Southern California. According to CNBC, they aren't that great — and according to the Business Times, McDonald's was mocking the trendiness of kale only last year.
Mashable Takes Us on a Tour of Food in Glassware
“This trend has gone too far!” they said. “So here's some more,” they said. (They're pretty good, actually. )
Foraging With Rene Redzepi
Rene Redzepi is in Australia for Noma's 10-week pop-up, and the New York Times reports on how he's teaming up with local foragers to create inventive dishes using ingredients like “wild fennel, lemon aspen berries, scurvy weed, [and] a diaphanous herb called 'slender celery.'” Not everything in Australia will kill you.
Shocker: Evangelical Leader Calls for Boycott of Girl Scout Cookies
Because of their support for LGBT rights, the Girl Scouts are “incompatible with biblical values” says Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham. Oh and by the way, Graham effectively endorsed Donald Trump.
