A Trio of New, Local Music Videos

From NRVS LVRS, Goapele, and Rayven Justice.

Today, three Bay Area artists have dropped exciting, new music videos. Check them out below.

“I Am Almost Perfectly Awake”
San Francisco indie-pop band NRVS LVRS (pronounced “Nervous Lovers”) is comprised of husband and wife duo Andrew Gomez and Bevin Fernandez. “I Am Almost Perfectly Awake,” the first single off their upcoming sophomore album Electric Dread (out June 30), is a rollicking fuzz-rocker made all the more dreamy thanks to Fernandez’s saccharine vocals. The adjoining music video — directed by David Dutton — is a kaleidoscopic wonderland that features Fernandez stuck in a web of yellow string.

Oakland singer Goapele — who made waves in the early 2000s with her sultry, neo-soul hit, “Closer” — delves into the noir in the music video for her new single “Secret,” off her recently released EP, Dreamseeker. Backed by a simple piano tune and a murky, minimalist electronic beat, Goapele hypnotizes listeners in this haunting video directed by Sean Alexander. In addition to some lyrical nods to Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody,” an albino snake also makes an appearance.

“Why Me”
Rayven Justice
Hot girls abound in Oakland crooner Rayven Justice’s new video for “Why Me.” Then again, that’s to be expected from the self-describe ladies man, who frequently pens songs about wooing and charming women. The catchy, upbeat song is directed toward a woman who has “a man at home,” but is pursuing Justice. “Why me?” he purrs in the hook, but by the looks of the video, he doesn’t seem to be sending any of these girls home.
