Like synths? Like Stranger Things? Like music that tugs on your heart strings? Then you’re gonna like this song.
“Nobody Knows,” a new track by Chicago electronic trio Autograf — premiered today on SF Weekly — is hands-down the best song I’ve heard all year. (Sorry, “Cash Me Outside How Bah Dah” Girl. The trap remix of your famous one-liner has now officially been bumped to my second favorite song of 2017.)
Filled with trickling synths, moody piano, and the plaintive baritone of Brooklyn singer and multi-instrumentalist Wynne, “Nobody Knows” is the kind of track that will give you the feels and make your body twitch.
The song marks a new direction for the electronic trio who gave us the unforgettable, tropical dance number “Dream” back in 2015.
It comes paired with a gloomy, cinematic music video shot in the dead of night in a vacant city. Autograf says the intention behind the video was to match the same poignant, emotive feelings that Wynne’s voice evokes in the song.
“His voice is so full of emotion and mystery that we wanted a music video that embodied the unknown,” the group says. “With everything going on in the world right now, nobody knows*, really, what the future holds.”
Make sure to catch Autograf this Saturday, Feb. 11 as they perform on the Love Boat, along with Bag Raiders and Le Youth. And if you happen to be in N.Y.C., make sure you stop by the W Hotel because the group was recently invited to design an art installation for the hotel’s main window.
Autograf plays at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, on the Love Boat. More info here.
*Get it? Nobody knows vs. “Nobody Knows.”
