E-40’s “Function” Gets Certified Gold

It's the Vallejo rapper's second gold plaque this year.

It took more than four years, but “Function,” the third single from E-40’s 16th studio album, The Block Brochure: Welcome to the Soil 2, has finally been certified gold by the RIAA. Featuring verses from YG, IAMSU, and Problem, the hyphy, party banger charted at No. 22 on Billboard‘s Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles, marking the rapper’s first appearance on that chart since his 2008 track, Wake It Up.”

“Function” is the second song that 40 Water has received a gold plaque for this year, following his 2015 hit “Choices,” which went gold in May.

Getting certified gold is a huge accomplishment for any artist, but it is especially so for E-40 who has remained an independent artist throughout the entirety of his multi-decade career.

Stay tuned for his upcoming album, The D-Boy Diary Books 1 and 2, which consists of 44 tracks and comes out on Friday, Nov. 18.
