Look past Fiona Apple’s disheveled ombré locks and ignore the barking dog in the background, because it’s the singer’s clever and witty lyrics defaming President-elect Donald Trump that is the main focus of her Dec. 6 YouTube video. (Though we’ve got to admit that the cell phone-shot video is poorly filmed and Apple does look a bit like a crackhead.)
In place of the original 1945 version’s narrative detailing all the charming tropes of the holiday season, Apple coos a very defamatory, albeit au courant tale, swapping every mention of Santa Claus with Trump. Instead of reindeer, Trump’s got “black boys in hoodies locked up on his sleigh,” and instead of “Jack Frost nipping at your nose,” Trump will be “clawing at your clothes.”
The song ends — appropriately enough — with a good ol’ “Donald Trump, fuck you,” and we can’t say we disagree with her.
Check out the lyrics below:
“Trump’s nuts roasting on an open fire
as he keeps nipping at his foes.
you’ll cry creepy uncle
every time he arrives
for he keeps clawing at your clothes
everybody knows some money and entitlement
can help to make the season white
mothers of color with their kids out of sight
will find it hard to sleep at night.
They know that truuump is on his way.
he’s got black boys in hoodies locked up on his sleigh
and every working man is going to cry
when they learn that Letch don’t care how you live or if you die
Sooo I’m offering this simple phrase
to kids from 1 to 92
although it’s been said many times, many ways
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Donald Trump, fuck you”
