Huichica, the bicoastal music festival that stops in Sonoma, takes over Gundlach Bundschu Winery on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, with none other than Lee Fields & the Expressions as the headliner. In addition to New York’s Hudson Valley, the wine-fueled fest has added a third weekend in another famed viticultural region, Walla Walla, Wash.
But it’s Sonoma that we care about the most, and Huichica is special not just because the oldest family-owned winery California is beautiful, but because this is a very intimate production by the standards of music festivals, with fewer than 1,500 people in attendance. Last year’s headliner (Jonathan Richman) played to crowds that were still hurting from 2017’s devastating wildfires, but this year, co-presenters (((folkYEAH!))) are set to throw more of a proper party, with Real Estate, Connan Mockasin, Fruit Bats, Dean Wareham, and others rounding out the bill.
And while original frontman Arthur Lee has been dead for more than a decade, Love is set to reassemble under lead guitarist Johnny Echols to play its 1967 classic, Forever Changes.
G.A. tickets go on sale at noon on Friday, Feb. 22, with both two-day ($155) and single-day passes ($55 for Friday, $110 for Saturday). If you’re coming from San Francisco and you don’t want to drive, there are shuttle buses making the run both days.
