Laura Weinbach of Foxtails Brigade Talks New Track With DeModa

It's always nice to see singers stepping out of their comfort zones.

Fans of the San Francisco quintet Foxtails Brigade no doubt love the band for its shadowy, languid indie-folk tunes that combine hints of cabaret, jazz, and experimental music.

But now the band’s frontwoman and guitarist Laura Weinbach has tried something new by collaborating with N.Y.C. producer DeModa for the electronic dance track, “Blind Contour.”

Sprinkled with synths, vocal chops, and other intergalactic-sounding flourishes, “Blind Contour” sees Weinbach, who is the vocalist on the song, stepping out of her comfort zone and trying something new.

“It was fun to venture out of my usual sound aesthetic for a bit and assume a different character,” Weinbach says. “Sometimes I get hung up on ideas when I write for my own project and have found that there is a certain kind of freedom that comes when working or writing for other people.”

Here’s hoping Weinbach partakes in more collaborations, because though we love what she’s doing in Foxtails Brigade, hearing her warm, contralto on any song is always a delight.
