Update: An earlier version of this post repeated a claim about the Chapel’s scheduling that the venue says is categorically false.
On Saturday, April 15, the Chapel will throw a charitable one-day event featuring a lineup of local acts curated by White Fence’s Tim Presley (whom our writer Elle Carroll “stood naked with,” so to speak, in February).
Called the Luminance Festival, this year’s soiree will be its second, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Coast Property Owners Association’s storm relief fund for Big Sur.
It helps that this year’s festival is shaping up to be much different than the last, which was held in Felton and included acts like Vetiver, Heron Oblivion, and Lumerians.
Not only will White Fence be performing, but Once and Future Band, Mall Walk, Nico Georis, Pesos, Peacers, Mammatus, Wild Boy, and Earth Girl Helen Brown will be, too.
And while credit goes to Presley for choosing the lineup, congratulations goes to Britt Govea, the Chapel’s head booker and a Big Sur resident, who founded and planned the philanthropic festival.
“It’s been a rough year for Big Sur,” Govea says. “There are a lot of displaced and out of work families that sure can use the love. And in the words of David Crosby, ‘Music is love!’ ”
