Drake, Nicki Minaj and Adele Are Nominees For TIME's Person Of The Year Award

I love when polls are open to the public. You never fail to get some zany, cuckoo submissions — Deez Nuts, anyone? Even though Deez Nuts is (sadly) missing from this year's list of Person of the Year nominees (defined as a person or group that “for better or for worse…has done the most to influence the events of the year”), the candidates are still interesting, nonetheless.
Ranked at #1, with 11.7% of the public vote, we've got Bernie Sanders, a fitting nominee, considering that people like Caitlyn Jenner and J.J. Abrams are also on the list. The first dozen nominees are pretty standard and expected. You've got Obama, Pope Francis, Elon Musk, and, my personal favorite, the vaguely simple and widely-inclusive “Refugees.” Leading lady, Adele, whose recent album, 25, went platinum over the weekend, ranks at lucky number 13, beating out Donald Trump, J.K. Rowling and even Hillary Clinton. Everyone's favorite “girl next-door,” Taylor Swift, also made it onto the list, because, I guess, having model friends and repetitive lyrics about heartbreaks and break-ups warrant being nominated for Person of the Year.  A few slots below Taylor is Nicki Minaj, who has so far received 1.2% of the public vote. She's followed by Drake, who's at 1.1%.

The winner of TIME's Person of the Year reader poll will be announced on December 7, and the editors-chosen Person of the Year winner, will be announced on December 9.

Here's hoping Drake wins. I mean, have you seen the “Hotline Bling” memes? That's Person of the Year material right there.
