For our money, one of the best ways to sniff out a great lunch spot is by following the trail blazed by civil servants — cops, firefighters, paramedics — and construction workers. There's no rhyme or reason to it, but if you can't count the number of hardhats and uniforms on one hand, you're bound to come up with a good nosh. That's how we found Ted's Market in SOMA, and not a moment too soon either.
For a place that stacks the most amazing sandwiches we've had the pleasure to gorge ourselves with in San Francisco, relatively little has been written about Ted's, outside the superlative Yelpers. Family owned, rich with its own history, and operating in a classic deli-style set-up, Ted's is a lone sandwich wolf among sandwich sheep. Plus, the price is right, with most sammy's hovering around the $5 mark. 'Wichcraft, you know what you can do with your $9.50 pastrami.
