Go Down the Rabbit Hole (and Around San Francisco) in This Video for Waterstrider's “Calliope”

It’s been a big start of 2015 for Oakland’s Waterstrider. Shortly after the new year, they dropped the enchanting “White Light” and now they’ve come roaring back with “Calliope,” the second single off their newly announced debut LP, Nowhere Now, out on April 7.

[jump] Melodically, “Calliope” brings tribal drums, hypnotic guitars, a bold bassline and Nate Salman’s marvelous voice guiding the expedition. Salman says the song “is about a psychological battle with one’s muse. Afraid of giving everything to the unknown force behind a creative process and exposing our hearts to the world, we shackle ourselves to routine experiences.”

The video explores Salman’s idea on a trip through a time and space continuum, spanning the soul-searching journey of a man on the familiar streets of San Francisco (can you tell which ones?) to the world of a medieval knight. It’s a fine display of artistry, directed by Joe Nankin.
