Stern Grove's 79th festival season starts this Sunday, June 19 with performances by Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe and the San Francisco funk band Midtown Social. Throughout June, July, and August, the event will host free (!) musical performances from a wide-range of genres, including hip-hop, funk, soul, classical, pop, and indie-rock, every Sunday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. at Sigmund Stern Grove, located at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard. Make sure to catch the Bay Area rap crew Hieroglyphics in July, Oakland indie-rock band Astronauts, etc. in August, and the San Francisco Ballet on Sunday, July 31.
