'Stupididity': Themselves Reinvent The Remix

Themselves, the indestructible duo of MC Doseone and producer Jel — both leading lights of Oakland's Anticon collective — is back with a new mixtape, rounding out a two-year trifecta of new material since The No Music in 2002 (after which Dose and Jel moved on, together and separately, to projects with other names, including Subtle and 13 & God). First came theFREEhoudini, a surprisingly taut and energetic mixtape; then came the proper release, the comparatively dense CrownsDown; now say hello to CrownsDown&Company, a haunted house full of reworked tracks from the latter, featuring mixing-board sorcery from Anticon regulars Alias and Odd Nosdam, relative newcomers Baths and Lazer Sword, and, uh, Themselves themselves. Our pick: Bracken's slithering boom-bap treatment of “Gold Teeth Will Roll.”
