Burger Boogaloo announced its 2019 lineup this morning, and the main attraction is none other than Scottish alt-rockers The Jesus and Mary Chain! Thirty-three years after the release of Psychocandy, Jim Reid told SF Weekly last month that the band is “damaged and in pursuit of joy,” and hopefully they’ll bring a bit of both to Oakland’s Mosswood Park on Saturday and Sunday, July 6-7.
Joining them are acts like Aussie post-punk quartet The Scientists,”Fuck Off” all-stars Jayne County & the Electric Chairs, and the amazingly named Amyl & the Sniffers. Last years’s headliners — hometown favorites Shannon and the Clams — return to the bill, hot off frontwoman Shannon Shaw’s incredible solo album. As ever, reigning monarch of dubious taste John Waters presides over the festivities. Tickets are $129 for the weekend pass, $199 for the VIP upgrade.
This year, Burger Boogaloo has partnered with The Homeless Action Center to make a difference in the most urgent social issue facing the Bay Area. (You can donate when buying your ticket, and the nonprofit will have several booths on-site to be there when your sense of wellbeing and good fortune meets your conscience.) Although it may be hard to top Devo’s farewell concert from last year, this two-day party in the park promises to be the most underground festival of the summer.
