“Up ahead was a mass group of people on Red River and he was
just getting faster and faster. He hit the first wave of people at the
back of the group. We just saw a half a dozen of them get tossed up in
the air over the car. He didn't slow down. And then a few feet later, he
hit another line of people in a group… People were rushing to help…
He only got faster… It looked like something out of a movie… It was
like watching evil.”
Mitch Wilson, eyewitness to the fatal SXSW hit and run incident that happened March 13th
“After talking with the Austin Police Department, we have determined
that the most prudent course of action is to move forward with the SXSW
shows scheduled tonight… My staff and myself are brokenhearted for not only the victims and
families of this senseless tragedy, but also for our beloved Red River
and this entire community… Our intent is to come together to help the families of each and every one of the victims.”
SXSW founder Roland Swenson issued a statement after the incident.
