Treasure Island Music Festival Is Back for 2018!

The much-missed festival's 11th year happens Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14 at Oakland's Middle Harbor Shoreline Park.

UPDATED 5/16/18: TIMF has released its full lineup for 2018, with Tame Impala and A$AP Rocky headlining.

After a tumultuous 2016 festival marred by bad weather and bad blood, the Treasure Island Music Festival took a year off — but it’s back for 2018 at West Oakland’s Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, home of the magnificent shipping cranes that have become an unofficial emblem of the city. (The real reason for the festival’s non-occurrence in 2017 was actually its forced relocation, owing to the redevelopment of its native isle.)

The park, formerly the Oakland Naval Supply Depot, is about as close to Treasure Island as you can get, so retaining the name for the 11th go-round makes a good deal of sense. Organizers Noise Pop and Another Planet Entertainment haven’t released the musical lineup just yet, but the confirmation of TIMF’s return is reassuring — as is throwing it on a west-facing waterfront.

The ease of getting there via charter buses departing from Bill Graham has always been a boon (especially for anyone who’s ever waited for a 5-Fulton bus at 35th Avenue after Outside Lands, or attempted to leave Coachella via anything but a personal chopper). West Oakland BART is reasonably near Middle Harbor, and TIMF promises a smooth continuation of this historical strong point.

The golden-hour performances are always a plus, too. In the festival’s official statement, Another Planet EVP Allen Scott cited the park’s “breathtaking landscapes featuring views of both the San Francisco Bay and city skylines” as a deciding factor.

Or, as producer Jordan Kurland told SF Weekly a few months ago, “In 2013, James Blake was playing our quote-unquote sunset spot, on the main stage,” he says. “The fog was rolling in from the north, and there was a container ship floating out in the Bay. I was on the east side of the stage, and it was such a magical moment.”

We will keep you updated as soon as further details, including the full lineup and ticket availability, become final.
