Weekend Party Preview: DJs Benji B. and Fil Latorre

There will likely never be a lack of DJs in San Francisco, and subsequently, there will also probably never be a lack of DJ-fronted club nights. Even if turntables were outlawed and the city's noise ordinance put a stop to all loud music after dark, it's easy to picture the innumerable selectors of S.F. binding together to start an underground resistance fueled by dirty dance beats and bone-rattling bass frequencies. It'd be like Mad Max, or something, but with less cage fighting and more alcohol. Here's hoping that day never comes. For the present moment, here are a couple legal DJ nights we suggest you get into.

Friday, September 17

What: Garden w/ Fil Latorre, Pee Play, and Daniel J
When: 9:30 p.m. – 3 a.m.
Why: This one has been flying under our radar for a little while now, but we're happy to finally catch it. Garden is a weekly party going down every Friday night at the Triple Crown club on Market St., gathering together a some of the city's choicest cut chemists — with a sprinkling of out-of-town talent for good measure — for a solid night of “housetechfunkpunkdiscoelectrobass,” as the party's flier puts it. This edition features the stylings of Pee Play from the disco- and house-obsessed Honey Soundsystem, Hawaii's Love & Light promoter Daniel J, and veteran SF DJ Fil Latorre. It's an excellent mix of talent — especially for a $5 cover.
