OUR Music Festival, the world’s first blockchain-powered music festival, is coming to Civic Center Plaza on Saturday. Oct. 20. Having announced its only-in-S.F. existence in late June along with a confirmation that Zedd would be headlining, the slightly dubious-sounding crypto festival redeemed itself with a fuller lineup: Big Sean, 3LAU, Matt & Kim, and Charlotte Lawrence are also scheduled to perform. But if you want a ticket, you have to use Bitcoin Cash (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), or Litecoin (LTC).
As we reported earlier, with a cryptocurrency ecosystem to buy merchandise, food, and drinks, OMF believes it can circumvent scalping and counterfeiting that plagues other festivals.
“The blockchain space is littered with promises that lack real-world application,” Blau said. “While it will take time for OMF to reach its full potential, our team has studied blockchain-layered applications and legal compliance for years to facilitate realistic steps toward decentralization.”
In other words, they’ve been thinking about it for a while and it could take a few years for it to hit its stride.
From cryptocurrency rapper CoinDaddy to indie pop band Joywave adding “blockchain” to its business moniker, musicians are tying themselves to the new culture. And in the tech center that is the Bay Area, a themed festival was bound to happen here.
