Aaron Peskin Questions Whether Gavin Newsom Can Be a Member of Local Democratic Party

Upon hearing news that Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom would move his family to the ritzier county of Marin, you'd expect to hear his political rivals say something like “Don't let the door hit you on the way out.”

Instead, they are going to great lengths to remove any remaining ties Newsom might have to San Francisco. Aaron Peskin, chairman of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee — and Newsom's longtime political rival — fired off a letter yesterday to the state's second-in-command asking him to please, for the record, clarify where he is living these days.

According to state law, as Peskin cites in the letter, Newsom can no longer serve as an ex-officio for the San Francisco Democratic Club if he isn't living here.
