Another Homicide Hits S.F. in String of Gun Violence

Up until Wednesday, there has been an average of one homicide per day this week.

The death of a man in a double shooting in the Tenderloin on Wednesday night marks the third homicide to hit San Francisco in one week, according to police.

Police responded to Hyde Street and Golden Gate Avenue around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday and found two men with gunshot wounds. Oakland resident Javis Jones, 36, died on the scene, according to the Medical Examiner’s office, and a 50-year-old man was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Jones’ death marks the third homicide in San Francisco this week. A double shooting on 16th and Mission streets killed 34-year-old Hubert Coleman Jr., of Richmond early Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday at 10:51 p.m., San Francisco resident Matthew Higginbotham was fatally shot on Kirkwood Avenue in Bayview-Hunters Point. The three homicides occurred in a 48-hour period.

Wednesday’s shooting marks the 26th homicide to occur in San Francisco so far this year.
