Consumer Optimism? Twice as Many San Francisco Picnics as Last Year.

Could there be optimism in the air following two years of recession? San Franciscans went on  twice as many picnics and took twice as many recreation classes they did a in June a year ago, according to the Government Barometer, a periodic tally of performance measures produced by the city controller's office.

According to the report, in June 2009 there were 8,949 reservations for picnic tables and other park recreational facilities — and 17,577 such reservations in June 2010. The number of people enrolled in recreational courses with the parks department was 15,945, up from 7,979 a year ago.
