Disney Coming To The Presidio: Should We Be Afraid, Or What?

Construction of the Disney Family Museum is moving forward nicely in the Presidio, and is expected to be complete by September 2009, according to the Examiner. And despite reporter Will Reisman's strict adherence to tried-and-true daily news style, he does manage to register subdued amazement that virtually nobody has paid attention, mush less criticized, the museum plan. Not that there's a hell of a lot to criticize, aside from the fact of Disney, being, you know, Disney and all.

The Examiner report also deftly handles another call-me-crazy type of question: why would Disney want to build a museum in San Francisco, much less in the rather drab, non-theme parky buildings of a former Army base, especially given the widespread rumor (false, by the way) that Walt Disney was dishonorably discharged from the military?

“The museum will house drawings, photographs and other documents related to the iconic Disney founder, [Walt] Miller said, adding that his grandfather’s strong admiration of the military connected ideally with the Presidio’s past.”

Er, uh, sure, Disney. Say hi to Lucas for me.
