The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office identified the elderly pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning in Ingleside.
While turning onto Ocean Avenue from Victoria Street, a driver struck 80-year-old Candida Duazo while she crossed the street near the El Rey Theatre. Police responded to the area around 9 a.m. and found the San Francisco resident suffering from injuries.
Officers transported Duazo to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
By SF Weekly‘s count, Duazo is the seventh pedestrian — and third elderly pedestrian — fatally struck by a vehicle in 2018.
Senior citizens are four times more likely than people under 65 to be killed in a traffic collision. In 2016, they made up 44 percent of traffic deaths while accounting for 15 percent of San Francisco’s population.
