A loose chicken reportedly fouled traffic on the Bay Bridge this morning, as it attempted to cross the road. There is no word so far as to whether it made it to the other side.
KCBS reports that the chicken was first spotted around 5:50 a.m. near the Fast Trak lanes by the toll plaza. As of 9:12 a.m., KPIX reports that Caltrans was allowing the chicken to continue running amok “since it’s safer than putting a crew member in traffic to catch it.”
Reached for comment, the chicken told SF Weekly, “The sky is falling.”
The chicken was not the only avian disruption of traffic this morning. NBC Bay Area reports that a goose was on the loose on Highway 101 near San Jose.
A California Highway Patrol officer on a motorcycle rode behind the goose, urging the bird to waddle back to the side of the road and into some bushes… The goose complied and no injuries were reported as the bird flew off to safety.
The poultritudinous start to the day left many wondering why the chicken was crossing the Bay Bridge. SF Weekly can exclusively report that it's because she was evicted from her coop in San Francisco and now must commute from the East Bay.
