Here's the deal: This is a big get for Kamala Harris, the ambitious San Francisco district attorney looking to climb the political ladder. For one thing, Bill Bratton — former New York chief and outgoing LAPD bossman — is as big a name as there is in law enforcement. For another, she needs all the help she can get with SoCal voters, who have no idea who she is.
Hey L.A., here's a Twitter-ready bio on Harris: She opposes the death penalty, her department's diversion program “Back on Track” accidentally offered job training to illegal immigrants, she's smart, charismatic, and has great hair (although it's not as famous as our mayor's coiffure).
Harris also has a book coming out next week, Smart On Crime: A Career Prosecutor's Plan to Make Us Safer. In that book, she praises Bratton as a “law enforcement innovator.”
