Internationally renowned welterweight champ, Phillipines congressman, part-time singer, actor, basketball mogul, and all-around bon vivant Manny Pacquiao is gracing San Francisco this week to promote his next title fight against Chris Algieri scheduled to take place in China this November.
The bigger news, of course, is that Pacquiao's long-overdue death match with fellow boxing titan Floyd “Money” Mayweather might actually happen in the first six months of 2015. Boxing fans have been waiting years for this high-stakes bout to come to fruition, but the boxers' camps could never agree on the terms — particularly over blood and urine testing to ensure that both boxers were clean.
[jump] But on Thursday, boxing promoter Bob Arum told the Chron he is “very optimistic” that the two camps have finally hashed out a deal.
Pacquiao was in San Francisco Thursday with Arum and his trainer, Freddie Roach, to promote the Algieri fight, kick it with reporters, and pose for photos in an unforgettable brown track suit. He'll hold a private Q&A session with Algieri at AT&T Park today, where VIP ticket holders can ask all the questions that have gnawed at fans since the last bout. (ie, Just what was that hex that Pacquiao's mother placed on Timothy Bradley while she sat ringside at the MGM Grand Garden Arena — and will it work for me?)
Incidentally, the Giants will also play the Brewers tonight at 7:15 p.m. Sadly, the game and boxing VIP package appear to be sold out.
