Passenger Drives off With Taxi After Beating Driver

As if San Francisco cab drivers aren't facing enough hardships.

A passenger in a yellow cab took the saying “get in the driver’s seat” literally on Tuesday night when she repeatedly hit the driver and made off with the taxi, police said Wednesday.

A woman believed to be in her 20s or 30s assaulted her taxi driver on Tuesday until he stopped the taxi and escaped near Cesar Chavez and Pennsylvania Street, on the border of Potrero Hill and Bayview. The woman, who was the only passenger in the taxi, then hopped in the driver’s seat shortly after boarding the car and drove away around 9:30 p.m., according to police.

The 43-year-old driver suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. The police haven’t come found the taxi yet, but the case is still under investigation.
