Police Investigate Homicide Near Union Square

This is San Francisco's sixth reported homicide of 2018.

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday one block away from Union Square.

A critically injured man — estimated to be 30 to 31 years old — was reported to police at 6:33 p.m. that evening. Police responded to the 500 block of Post Street, where the JW Marriot hotel sits. Paramedics rendered aid, but the victim succumbed to his injuries, which the Medical Examiner later confirmed was a homicide.

This is the sixth homicide of 2018.

UPDATE, 4:20 p.m. SFPD reports that “interviews and evidence” obtained in the investigation led the homicide unit to Petaluma. On Thursday, a search warrant was conducted at a Petaluma residence, and three people were detained.

While arrests have been made, SFPD is still considering the case to be active and open. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the SFPD anonymous tip line at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with SFPD at the beginning of the message.
